The Ultra-2 and Ultra-2 HP have several circuit boards, most critical are the Main Circuit Board (the “computer”) and the Memory Clock Board, also known as the “TIC Board”.  The TIC Board is a separate 1″ square board that supplies the timing and memory functions to the Main Circuit Board.  While it looks like a large watch battery on the board, the round metal “Can” is actually filled with timing and memory circuitry and a small battery to keep the memory safe when you turn off or unplug the machine.  After about a decade the battery dies and the TIC Board is non-functional, making the Main Control Board non-functional.  Of course, the machine then becomes non-functional.
The first warning that you have a problem is if you see the time display is running slowly.  Next your display reads, “BAD TIC CLOCK”.  The machine is designed to go into a safe mode where the cooling goes to Chill Mode instead of Ice Mode (keeping your product at 35 degrees), and the augers continue turning.  This is to save your product until you can remove it to a refrigerator and then repair the TIC Board.  However, if you ignore the message, the machine will eventually do one of many unexpected things, like becoming stuck in memory mode or locking you out of any of the switches.
Bunn stopped supplying the TIC Board in 2018.  Bunn  now offers you one choice — purchase their new Main Control Board that has the TIC functions directly on it, so when your TIC Board goes bad you now have to buy an entirely new style Main Control Board for about $200 (list price).  We worked on this problem and found the necessary parts originally used when the TIC boards were being made and learned how to program the circuit so it would operate an Ultra machine properly.  This is not a hokey work-around — you are replacing the circuit with the same circuit from the same manufacturer.  We then put together a kit with the pre-programmed circuit, all the tools you will need to safely change it, and a detailed set of instructions including photos to make sure you will have no problem replacing the bad circuit on the TIC board, making the board like new.  This circuit will work on any Ultra-2 including auto fill models.  In addition to the new programmed circuit, you will receive the detailed instructions, a circuit removal tool (plastic to prevent you from using the screwdriver and damaging the circuit holder on the board), a 6-way screwdriver, an electrostatic discharge wristband, and importantly free access to our Journeyman Technicians if you ave any questions or problems.
The hardest part of this job is taking off the panels to get to the board (loosen two screws)!  Putting in the new circuit is simply popping the old circuit out the old circuit with a tool we provide
and popping in the new circuit.  If you can turn a screwdriver, you can easily do this job and save yourself $150 in parts alone.

DON’T BUY USED TIC BOARDS.
This situation has people selling used TIC Boards from machines they are parting out.  Don’t buy a used TIC Board — the battery in it is surely ready to die and you’ll be in the same situation minus your money.
We took this kit and instructions to Bunn and they were very impressed. They were surprised I would give up a $200 sale for a new board for a $60 sale for this kit plus give free troubleshooting advice and instructions over the phone.
