INTRODUCTION
“Research requires hours spent searching, reading, analyzing, and systemizing a huge flow of information.
I
bow
to
anyone
who
has
devoted
and
devotes
their
time and
resources and, despite the difficulties, has committed their selves to the study of Bulgarian history and the related artifacts
.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the recognized Bulgarian specialists in the field of Bulgarian cool weapons, I personally believe that the existing publications are incomplete, inaccurate and controversial because they contain a confusing mix of truths, semi-truths, and moments and revealing myths for the Bulgarian short parade weapons in the Kingdom of Bulgaria
. This book is not intended to investigate and repeat any known facts, documents or photographs. Documents and photographs will only be presented as evidence to illustrate hypotheses and facts.
Without claiming comp
lete
ness and comprehensiveness, I will share my 25 years of experience by applying a comparative analysis of existing patterns and types of
dagger
s, hoping to
give
extra clarity through a new look and reading of already known documents and facts
. Until now, I have not found in the archives a complete set of documentation related to the Bulgarian
dirks
– decree, description and attached drawings. In the books published so far, the Bulgarian
dirks
also do not have complete authentic information and documentation, which creates prerequisites and opportunities for personal opinions and free interpretations on Bulgarian
dirk
s. This trend is most noticeable when it comes to
the daggers of
P
olice,
G
endarmerie,
F
ire
-brigade
and

Brannik

organization, as documentation and information for these institutions and organizations are the most scarce. For this reason, to my great regret, in certain moments I will inevitably have to deal with hypotheses based on research experience, analysis and dating of authentic photo material.
I will not deal with so-called “regent” and “republican”
daggers
, also so-called “
substitutes
“, because,
according to me
personally, the subject is very debatable and in the absence of documentation, there is a subjective opinion, not the idea of the book.
I will deal in detail with existing replicas, trying through analysis and practical advice to help collectors
to
more easily identify them. In recent years, the producers of replicas of Bulgarian
daggers
, using innovative technologies and materials, improve their skills and
respectively
the quality of their products, making them extremely close to the originals. Replicas are produced all over the world, some replicas cost tens of thousands of dollars, museums have replicas. There is nothing shameful and offensive about producing and selling replicas, provided you have announced that you are selling a replica. Unfortunately, the lack of knowledge of the Bulgarian short para
de weapons
allows
unscrupulous producers and traders
t
o try to present and sell the originals. Worse yet, a new approach is noticed in
the
recent years – the original
dagger
is disassembled, new parts are added, and two or three
dagger
s are produced. This leads to the destruction of the remaining few little surviving Bulgarian
dirks
, and the doubts that almost every offered
dirk
is a compilation or a fake, deter those who want to start collecting Bulgarian
dirk
s.
I sincerely hope that this book will open a new window to our knowledge of the history of the Bulgarian short para
de weapon
in the Kingdom of Bulgaria and will be a successful attempt to study, appreciate the dignity and preserve for the generations the few remaining artefacts in Bulgaria
related to
our history.”
